23.09.2016   VEEN win again!     ( Company news )

Company news Finn-Korkki congratulate VEEN waters for winning the International Fine Water Tasting Competition. VEEN Velvet won the Bronze Award in the First International Fine Water Tasting Competition in Guangzhou, China on 29th of June 2016.

‘We have seen in the past many attempts to conduct water tastings but none have risen to a standard that represent the category of Fine Bottled Water.

'Water like wine deserves attention and the water tasting conducted in Guangzhou puts water on the same level as wine with a five judge professional panel consisting of international water sommeliers, meeting for the first time at the tasting.’

VEEN previously won an award in 2007 for their glass bottle design that is closed with Finn-Korkki’s LuxTop luxury aluminium closure. Now VEEN have won an award for the water inside the design winning bottle.

This new award is not surprising when the two isolated sources of VEEN water are considered – from frozen Finnish Lapland and from the Eastern Himalayas in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

25.07.2016   Recycling of steel at all-time high of 76 per cent    ( Company news )

Company news Recycling of packaging made from steel, like crown caps and RingCrown caps, in Europe has reached a new high of 76 per cent. As recently announced by the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging, APEAL**.

The data from 2014, establishes steel as Europe’s most recycled packaging material. Some benefits of using steel to make bottle caps are:
    - Steel is easily and economically recovered from waste streams due to magnetic properties.

    - Steel is a permanent material so recycles forever without loss of quality.

Steel’s unique strength, formability and durability offer numerous benefits for the manufacturing of bottle caps this in addition to being the most recycled packaging material.

With the above in mind it can be asked, how much recycled steel is in a crown cap?
Recycling is an integral part of steel production globally and steel scrap is a necessary component in the production of steel. In Europe demand for steel scrap currently outstrips supply. At the same time, steel is a permanent material that can be infinitely recycled without loss of quality so steel makers re-melt & recycle constantly. There being no structural difference between new and secondary steel there is no known technique to determine the level of recycled content in finished steel, like tin plated steel used for making crown caps.

So how much recycled steel is in a crown cap? It is possible to say crown caps contain a significant proportion of recycled steel. Exactly how much is not known and varies by steel producer and by batch.

    15.02.2016   What is Finn-Korkki's MOQ?     ( Company news )

Company news Recent years have seen TRIPLE digit growth in the number of micro-breweries opening in Europe.

A similar trend is seen in several countries across the world and also for other beverages, like kombucha tea. The growth in micro-breweries is one of the reasons Finn-Korkki is asked frequently what is our minimum order quantity, MOQ?

When considering from a production view then perhaps one pallet should be a minimum. However many micro-breweries require a quarter pallet or less. And even this volume of 100,000 crown caps is often more than the brewer's annual sales forecast. A MOQ has never been written down by Finn-Korkki. The question when asked is answered by turning the question round to ask what is our customer’s needs? This is in keeping with the wanting to treat each customer individually. Considering this need, adjustments to the cap production and pricing were made to be able to offer decorated caps by the box. This option is possible for crown caps, RingCrown and RipCap closures.

This is not a new service but with the rapid growth in micro-breweries it is a service that is being offered more often.
