PET BOTTLE MARKET: Claranor & Löhrke pulse with the PET industry for ...  (Company news)

... a cleaner future, at Brau Beviale!

Claranor brought Pulsed light technology to PET production lines 10 years ago, as a cutting-edge sterilization process. At Brau Beviale, Claranor will present 2 business cases illustrating the advantages of Pulsed Light in terms of Efficiency and Savings.

Why Pulsed light is even more obvious than ever on the PET market?
PET is nowadays, among all others packaging materials, largely used. While manufacturers appreciate its flexibility and physical properties, consumers adopt it for its overall convenience. The PET development has been made possible thanks to improvements on the production lines, especially: fully automatic process with inline bottle blowing, filling, and capping. The sterilization is one major step of this process, ensuring protection of the product and of the brand. From wet to dry, chemical sterilization has been the reference until now. However, because of sustainability and economic performance, beverage producers are looking for new solutions of inline decontamination. Pulsed Light Technology has been attracting more and more producers.

Why Claranor Pulsed light is adopted by famous manufacturers?
Claranor is well-known for its Cap sterilization solutions suitable even for high speed filling lines (up to 100 000 bph): Instant treatment, compact, the solution designed by Claranor is easy to integrate on existing or new lines, and offers a decontamination performance matching with beverage manufacturers requirements. These advantages have introduced new standards in the non-chemical sterilization and have established Claranor cap sterilization as an efficient alternative to what only chemical disinfection was offering until now. With >300 units operating worldwide, Claranor solutions are adopted by the largest producers and integrated by major OEM.

How Claranor Pulsed light can generate savings on existing or new lines?
Integrating Claranor Pulsed Light is not only a way of implementing sustainable industrial practices, it is also a way to realize savings. During Brau Beviale, Claranor & Löhrke will present a full business case issued in collaboration with VILSA Brunnen (Germany), including a whole amortization table. Vilsa Brunnen have replaced in the last years 5 PAA cap treatment units used on sensitive filling lines by Pulsed Light. Claranor equipments are adapted for new lines, and to replace existing chemical inline sterilization equipment too. ROI is achieved within 3 years. This information has been presented in preview at the last Fresenius conference by Dirk-C. Leyer, Sales Manager at Löhrke Claranor exclusive distributor in Germany and Austria. “The first intention for Vilsa to adopt Pulsed light Sterilization was to avoid drawbacks of the Pulsed light: sustainable AND profitable PAA sterilization and to protect their natural water source. But the reason why they integrate the Claranor Pulsed light decontamination solution on 5 PET lines is economic.”

Why Claranor is offering outstanding sterilization solution?
Closure manufacturers have adapted the design of their products to sterilization processes since a long time. For example, the shape of thread and plug-seal were designed to avoid retention of drops of sterilant. Claranor has established discussions with closures manufacturers to convince them to adapt their design to the constraints and advantages of pulsed light sterilization. Having its own microbiological laboratory and microbiology team, Claranor performs permanently tests on packaging material. This enables to check improvements performed in the cap design to integrate in it the advantages of a chemical free sterilization. The collaboration with Aptar started in 2010 with the “Original”. One of the last dispensing solutions designed by Aptar is the Uno 38 mm. The translucent version of this sport closure allows a whole decontamination with pulsed light: inside, outside, even under the cover. It makes it suitable for ESL >60 days, adapted to Class IV VDMA.

Claranor at Brau Beviale, 13th to 15th November: booth 4.311
Claranor designs chemical free solutions for chemical free high-speed filling lines. On a common booth with Löhrke, visitors will see Cap and Preform decontamination units. To offer a whole chemical free sterilization of the packaging Claranor has designed a preform sterilizer. The microbiological results achieved on neck and body of preforms offer an effective solution suitable for Ultra clean and ESL lines: preserved or low carbonated soft drinks, beer-mix beverages, chilled juices and milkbased drinks…

Also, on display:
- Claranor Essential, a cost attractive Cap sterilizer bringing the power of Pulsed light to lower speed lines (<16 000 bph).
- Claranor Puls’Full Cap, an equipment dedicated to ESL > 60 days. Designed to allow the instantaneous treatment of both sides of the closure, it prevents any cross-contamination issues. This option matches perfectly the need of upgrading the level of hygiene on the filling lines to innovate with more sensitive products (without preservative, with natural ingredient).

HIGH PERFORMANCE LUBRICATION – Latest lubrication technology in field test  (Company news)

Last month we started to test our latest conveyor belt lubrication technology HIGH PERFORMANCE LUBRICATION. The first results are promising.

Belt lubrication systems are a must for conveyor belts. Especially in the food and beverage industry, in addition to the optimal functioning, hygienic conditions must also be observed. We are proud of the result of more than 30 years of experience. HIGH PERFORMANCE LUBRICATION (HPL) is a combination of the ULTRA DRY and the established LOEHRKE dry lubrication system. HPL was designed especially for high filling rates and difficult bottle shapes.

The control via an user-friendly app makes it easy to apply the lubricant exactly where it is needed. This enables the operator to reduce consumption to a minimum, it protects the environment and is lowering operating costs. Another major plus is the absence of fresh water. This means no waste water issues, preserves resources and the conveyor belts and floors stay dry. Dry equipment and floors is an important precondition to avoid microbiological growth while work safety is improved highly.

The innovative LOEHRKE HIGH PERFORMANCE LUBRICATION allows the application of a minimum amount of lubricant without aerosol formation. By means of the special nozzles, an extremely fine application is possible with uniform distribution over the entire width of the conveyor belt. The combination with the brushes allows application of a metered quantity of liquid, which is released slowly. The concentrated lubricant is distributed uniformly as a very thin film on the surface of the conveyor belt. In this case, the film can be so thin that the application does not accumulate on the deflection rollers below the transporter.

Filter optimization with LOEHRKE BEADS  (Company news)

Picture: LOEHRKE Beads – optimum throughflow

LOEHRKE expands its portfolio by a brand new product in the field of water filtration for the beverage and foodstuffs industry – the LOEHRKE BEADS.

In November of last year LOEHRKE BEADS were presented to an expert audience at the European exhibition for the beverage industry “BrauBeviale” in Nuremberg for the first time. The audience pursued the improvements in the water preparation with the utmost interest.

The innovative filter material consists of high-quality glass beads, which are used as an effective alternative to gravel for product and process water preparation. Conventional filter material such as quartz sand or granulate is extremely susceptible to attack by fungus, bacteria, grams, algae and calcification due to its porous, irregular structure. Pollution and contamination establish themselves in the unevenness of the coarsely porous surfaces of the filter materials, proliferate unchecked and without limits. They are also never completely removed by the back-flushing process and accumulate in the filter medium over time.

By using LOEHRKE BEADS the hydraulic and hygienic properties of the filter bed can be improved significantly. The advantages of a clearly increased dirt holding capacity and thereby extended service life, drastically decreased operating and consumption costs and nearly unlimited lifetime lead to an extremely attractive new product.

Storing safety of hazardous materials for the food industry  (Company news)

Turn-key competence for the storage of detergents

Picture: New detergent storage area at BERGMILCH SÜDTIROL in Bruneck, Italy

Detergents and chemicals have become indispensable in the food and beverage industry these days. The appropriate handling and safe storage is on one hand an important topic in every production facility, on the other hand it is incorporated in diverse laws, regulations or guidelines.

LOEHRKE has, for some time, been active in the area of process hygiene, and also with dosing systems of detergents or chemicals. This includes the safe storage accordingly to law. Planning and implementation of storing safety is part of LOEHRKEs product portfolio, offering necessary container, collection trays and corresponding shelf systems. From uptake to dosage and distribution of the medium – LOEHRKE delivers the complete systems engineering.

LOEHRKE Engineering
Jürgen Löhrke GmbH manufactures and supplies not only the system based on customer request, but also takes over project planning and offers significant after-sales services. LOEHRKE project teams are formed in a way that all customer projects benefit from the company’s long years know-how depending on the special requirements. Experts from different areas, like mechanical engineering, chemical technology, food technology, process technology or electrical engineering, work together hand in hand during every project stage. This assures that all relevant factors of the customer project are been taken into account.

The issuing of documents, e.g. for official applications by the customer, is a further aspect of the LOEHRKE turn-key project performance. A perfect timing of assembly and start-up is essential, so that downtimes in the customer production can be avoided. LOEHRKE is characterized by a modular product portfolio. New installations can be easily integrated in existing systems.

Storage of detergents at BERGMILCH SÜDTIROL (Italy)
Toni Herbst, Technical Project Manager at BERGMILCH SÜDTIROL in Bolzano, Italy: "With LOEHRKE we found the ideal partner for the renewal of our detergents storage areas. The highly professional approach and the competence - both technically and personally – proved a success with our project in the shortest possible time.”

This customer project concerned the renewal of detergents storage facilities at two different locations in Italy. In addition to the restructuring of the storage at the Bolzano plant dosing pipes were newly laid, whereas the merging of two warehouses were the focus at the Bruneck plant. In both factories totally new centralized tank storages for detergents were installed. The needed tanks were delivered in segments, implemented and finished on site. Final acceptance of the storage tanks took place by an external verifier without any problems.

LOEHRKE is an independent operating company offering process technology and hygiene solutions, like automated cleaning and disinfection. The medium-sized enterprise is family-owned and located in Lübeck, Northern Germany. LOEHRKE is partner of the global food and beverage industry since 30 years.
