As Austria's largest brewery company, Brau Union Österreich is aware of its ecological and social responsibility and strives to create a sustainable beer culture. In doing so, it is guided by the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" formulated by the United Nations with its 17 global development goals (Sustainable Development Goals): for example, numerous projects at all locations throughout Austria are used to protect water resources, continuously reduce energy and CO2 emissions, promote responsible consumption, create a safe working environment for the entire workforce, and establish partnerships for the future. Brau Union Österreich has now received the prestigious German Brand Award 2021 in the category "Brand Corporate Social Responsibility" for this extensive commitment to sustainability.

"Sustainability is a matter close to our heart. Thanks to our experienced brewmasters as well as long-standing partners, we at Brau Union Österreich have managed to brew in a CO2-neutral manner at two locations: the Göss brewery in Leoben and the Schladming brewery. In Schwechat and Puntigam/Graz, entire city districts are heated with the biogenic waste heat from beer production. Honoring these achievements in sustainability with the prestigious German Brand Award shows us that we are well on the way to achieving our goal of creating the best beer culture in Europe," says Gabriela Maria Straka, Director of Corporate Affairs and CSR at Brau Union Österreich and a qualified beer sommelier. Brau Union Österreich, part of the HEINEKEN family, is also committed to the UN Global Compact. As a member of the UN Global Compact Steering Committee Austria, Gabriela Maria Straka implements the SDG's and its corporate focus.
