Diversa adds 99-year-old Scotch whisky icon to its portfolio

The Scotch Whisky with the catchy yellow label was created in 1923 by Berry Bros & Rudd, world-class wine merchants since 1698 and suppliers to the British Royal Family. The brand is considered a pioneer of a new Scotch style and became world-famous through its popularity (popularity) in the USA.

During Prohibition, the insider whisky of the time was smuggled into the USA in relatively small quantities by the famous liquor smuggler Captain William (Bill for short) McCoy. He was nicknamed "The real McCoy" and stood for authentic, high-quality and good, unadulterated products. The brand experienced its meteoric rise immediately after Prohibition was lifted on 5 December 1933. Sales soared from 7,000 cases sold in 1934 to 80,000 cases in 1936. The lion's share of Cutty shipments in the 1930s went to the USA, but also to Canada and Western Europe. In 1962, Cutty Sark became the first Scotch whisky to cross the one million case mark in the US.

The blended Scotch was named after the legendary three-masted tea clipper Cutty Sark (engl.: short vest), one of the fastest ships at the end of the 19th century, which in turn got its name from the poem Tam O'Shanter by the famous Scottish writer Robert Burns. The original label was designed by James McBey, a famous Scottish artist and keen sailor. Due to a printing error, the paper initially glowed yellow instead of the cream colour originally intended. The dazzling icon became a favourite not only in the living room of Americans but also on the set of film productions due to its taste and concise design. Thus, Cutty was used in numerous American films for drinking scenes, which gave the brand a tremendous boom.

The basis for CUTTY SARK is a selection of fine single malts and high-quality grain whiskies, which are blended to create a blend. Glenrothes malts from Speyside form the backbone of the blend and provide a fruity character that is complemented by a gentle vanilla note. Carefully selected American oak casks and a special maturation process give the whisky a unique light and refreshing flavour profile that is perfect for blending. The blend is filtered at 6° Celsius, which preserves the delicate and fresh flavours by avoiding strict cold filtration. Cutty is a versatile all-rounder and everyday whisky with a very good price-performance ratio. A pleasure on its own, but also ideal for mixing. RRP 13,99 € / 0,7 L / 40% vol.
