For spring barley sowing, France is off to an early start, but stalled at the moment due to weather. The UK is also off to an early start for spring barley sowing.

Early sowing normally translates to improved yield potential as crops avoid to a greater extent the higher summer heat.

RMI Analytics’ initial crop 2022 estimate shows a rebound in production to 61.1 mln tonnes.

Barley prices in France are distinctly split between crop 2021 and crop 2022. In Scandinavia and the UK, prices are stronger and breaking away from French prices.

Feed barley prices are up on the Black Sea news and uncertainty around the ability for this region to execute shipments amidst the military situation.
