FLENS CELEBRATES TOP-OUT CEREMONY — On Track for the First Brew This Winter

Building a new brewhouse is both a major challenge and a special privilege for a brewery. With the topping-out ceremony on September 4, the Flensburg Brewery is celebrating a major milestone in construction at its Munketoft 12 location. Where the groundbreaking took place in a large sand pit just over a year ago, a building now stands. It already clearly shows what the future heart of the Flensburg Brewery will look like.
The topping-out ceremony for the Flensburg Brewery’s new brewhouse showcases what has been achieved on the construction site over the past few months: a great deal of craftsmanship, precise planning, and strong collaboration among all those involved. This was celebrated together. Following speeches by Michael Seip from the Flensburg Brewery’s management team, Enes Erisgen, project manager for the brewhouse at the Flensburg Brewery, and best wishes from Christoph Holt, managing director of Holt & Nicolaisen, Moritz Nölle from Hermann Reese Baugeschäft delivered the ceremonial topping-out speech.
Among the guests were brewery employees, representatives of the various trades involved, and the mayor of Flensburg, Dr. Fabian Geyer. One thing became particularly clear that evening: a construction project of this magnitude is not something to be taken for granted. This makes the gratitude for what is being achieved here together all the greater.
“The topping-out ceremony marks a huge step forward for our new brewhouse. When we look at the nearly completed building today, we can already get a good sense of what it will look like later,” says Enes Erisgen, production manager and project manager for the construction of the new brewhouse, in his speech at the topping-out ceremony. “The fact that we’ve gotten back on track after the difficult winter and were able to install the vessels on time is a tremendous team effort. My thanks go to everyone involved.” Speaking before the nearly 200 attendees, Erisgen emphasized that the structural work in particular presented special challenges. Complex structural engineering issues had to be resolved. The structural contractor and structural engineers worked together to develop viable solutions. The large number of trades working in parallel also placed high demands on coordination. The quality of the entire planning process is now clearly evident on the construction site: architecture, structural engineering, building services, the contractors, and the brewhouse builders all work seamlessly together.
The topping-out ceremony does not mark the end of the work. The roof will be installed in September. As soon as the glass facade is fully installed, interior work will begin in October. By then, the heating, ventilation, plumbing, and building electrical systems should also be complete. Much of the subsequent work will not be visible later on, but it is crucial for the facility’s operation. The brewing vessels will be piped, tanks and equipment will be connected, and the control systems will be set up.
Step by step, the foundation is being laid so that commissioning can begin in January 2027. The first brew is scheduled for this winter.
