Karlsberg Brauerei GmbH (corporate bond, WKN: A254UR) has published its annual financial statements for 2022. The company was able to significantly increase sales both in retail and especially in gastronomy. Gaining market share in the food retail sector and the reopening of the gastronomy business contributed to the good business development.

The gross sales of the Karlsberg Brewery increased in the year under review by 6.4 million euros (+ 4.4%) to 151.3 million euros. Domestic beverage sales of EUR 121.1 million were significantly above the previous year's level with an increase of around EUR 10.7 million (+ 9.7%). In particular, in the catering sector and due to the return of many events, draft beer sales in Germany made a very positive contribution to the operating business development, achieving the highest growth with a sales increase of 89.6 %. In contrast, beverage sales in the lower-margin foreign business of EUR 23.2 million declined and were EUR 4.7 million (- 16.8 %) below the level of the previous year.

The operating earnings figures adjusted EBITDA and EBIT were moderately below the previous year's level at EUR 17.6 million and EUR 8.7 million respectively (2021: EUR 18.5 million and EUR 10.1 million). The main reason for this stable result was the positive development of domestic sales, despite higher raw material and energy prices, higher expenses for marketing and sales and significantly lower other operating income compared to the previous year.

Christian Weber, Chief Representative of Karlsberg Brauerei KG Weber: "As a team we have achieved a lot under volatile conditions. We have strengthened our competitive position and expanded our market shares. The development of our result shows the stability of our business model with the strategy of concentrating on our strong brands."

Karlsberg Brewery will continue to place its strategic focus on sustainable profitability and to this end will concentrate on further expanding the market position of its Karlsberg and MiXery brands.

Markus Meyer, Managing Director of Karlsberg Brauerei GmbH, expects a moderate increase in sales for the current 2023 business year, taking into account necessary price increases. With rising costs in production and logistics and increased expenditure on marketing and sales for the further development of the brands, the management assumes that the adjusted EBITDA will also be moderately above that of the past year.
