For customer-friendly digitalization and sustainable food retailing

Lidl in Germany is introducing the digital deposit receipt, making the shopping experience even more pleasant and sustainable for its customers. Starting Monday, August 4, all Lidl customers across Germany will be able to conveniently save and redeem their deposit amounts via the Lidl Plus app. Lidl is the first food retailer in Germany to introduce the digital receipt across all of its stores.
This innovation has many advantages: by eliminating paper receipts, Lidl in Germany and its customers are making an active contribution to environmental protection. In addition, all available and already redeemed deposit receipts can be viewed at any time in the Lidl Plus app. Automatic storage allows for better control and eliminates the need to keep paper receipts. Lost or forgotten deposit receipts are now a thing of the past. When customers scan their Lidl Plus card at the checkout, the receipt is automatically redeemed, unless it has been manually deactivated beforehand.
All customers still have the option of choosing a paper receipt. Both digital and printed receipts can be redeemed at any store throughout Germany. "We let our customers choose which option they prefer. At the same time, with the digital deposit receipt, we are sending a strong signal for customer-friendly digitalization and sustainable processes in food retail. The introduction aims to further improve the shopping experience and take on ecological responsibility," says Florian Späth, Managing Director Customer Sales at Lidl Dienstleistung GmbH und Co. KG.
Lidl in Germany successfully tested the digital deposit receipt in a few stores before its national introduction. In addition, a paperless receipt option, the digital receipt, has been available to Lidl Plus users since 2019.
