Riedenburger Brauhaus wins another European Beer Star award
News General news
Riedenburger Brauhaus has once again won a silver medal at the European Beer Star 2025: its historic emmer beer was honored in the “Beer with Alternative Grains” category. This is the second year in a row that the family-owned brewery has won this prestigious competition – last year, its Dolden Dark beer took home the award. The award ceremony took place on September 17 as part of the world's leading trade fair drinktec at the International Congress Center Messe München (ICM).

An award for quality and tradition
The European Beer Star is one of the most prestigious beer competitions worldwide and honors beers that stand out for their authenticity, character, and the highest quality craftsmanship. Around 2,200 beers from 74 categories were evaluated in August by a 150-member international jury of experts consisting of master brewers, sommeliers, trade journalists, and beer connoisseurs in a blind tasting. Only the three best beers in each category were awarded gold, silver, or bronze.
“We are filled with pride and gratitude for this silver medal for our historic emmer beer,” explains Maximilian Krieger, managing director of the Riedenburg brewery. “Emmer is one of the oldest cultivated grains and is particularly close to our hearts as a brewery. For many years, we have been committed to organic farming, regional value creation, and close cooperation with our partner farmers. We are very happy that our Emmer beer has now also made a positive impression on the international stage.”
Emmer: An ancient grain with a future
The Historic Emmer Beer embodies the philosophy of the Riedenburger Brauhaus, which is to combine tradition with innovation and ecological responsibility. Emmer is considered a climate-resilient ancient grain that not only tastes good but also has ecological benefits. With its bright chestnut brown color, delicate nutty and caramel notes, and harmonious character, the beer impressed the jury. Since fall 2024, a non-alcoholic version of the historic emmer beer has also been added to the range—a further step toward making this grain variety accessible to a wider audience. It is brewed with the brewery's own “Altmühltaler Emmer” variety, for whose revival the Riedenburg Brewery was already honored in 2024 in the “30 for 30” competition
