A Peruvian rum from the city of friendship - Sierra Madre takes over the distribution of Ron Millonario

In northern Peru - in a small settlement known as the "City of Friendship" - the Hacienda Agricola de Chiclayo was founded in 1904. Between the sea and the mountains, a group of farmers in Chiclayo joined forces to trade their sugar and built a small refinery for this purpose. Exactly one hundred years later, in 2004, Italian bottler Fabio Rossi discovered a true treasure of the country while travelling through Peru. The Hacienda had developed a wonderful rum: Ron Millonario. Together with his brother, he brought the rum to Europe, and the Rossi brothers eventually exported it all over the world - even to Germany. Now the brothers paid a visit to Sierra Madre GmbH, based in Hagen, to make it official: From 1 July, Germany-wide distribution will be handled by Sierra Madre GmbH, a family-run import and distribution company with over 25 years of expertise in the food and beverage sector.

The heart of production: the technology of the art of distillation
But first, let's take another look at the past: The head of the Don Rolando family bought not only the hacienda at that time, but also the refinery and the huge sugar cane plantation of the Gutiérrez family. The raw materials for the production of rum were therefore more than adequate, but the elementary heart of the production was the technology. Since the extensive knowledge of the art of distillation was lacking, the full potential of the sugar cane could not be exploited. Therefore, in 1933, Don Rolando sent his eldest son Augusto to Cambridge University to study chemical engineering. Five years later, Augusto returned home with the precious machinery of the cylinder mill for the sugar and for distillation. It was Augusto who finally introduced the first Ron Millonario to the market in 1950. The rum is therefore a result of inexhaustible work. And since only a few Peruvians had the money to buy the rum, it was given the name "por los millonarios". Many years later, in 2004, Fabio Rossi came to Peru in his search for new products and discovered Ron Millonario - a warm, rich product that was a delight to drink. The Rossi brothers' unwavering belief in the product began to pay off. "Over the years, we have developed this rum into one of the best rums in the world," says Rossi.

The secret of Ron Millonario
According to the Rossi brothers, the land of the Incas is an insider's tip when it comes to rum. The sugar cane from the highlands is considered particularly strong and spicy. "We have concentrated on a single quality product. Over many years, we have developed a sophisticated fermentation process with special yeasts that gives the sugar cane molasses plenty of time to ferment and creates the unique bouquet of this rum," says Fabio Rossi. The individual distillates are matured in different barrels made of American and Slavonian oak according to the solera method known from Spain. The multiple blending results in a masterpiece that reveals different aromas layer by layer when drunk and is characterised by softness and harmony. A special feature of the Ron Millonario 15 Reserva Especial: the bottle is hand-wrapped with toquilla straw by Peruvians using an ancient technique.

Timo Fischer, Managing Director of Sierra Madre GmbH: "We are very pleased that we have been able to win over a renowned spirit with Ron Millonario. Our portfolio already includes many well-known spirits, but with Ron Millonario we are now distributing the first spirit from the land of the Incas, which has already won several international awards."

Product diversity: Launch of the Kuytchi Spirit Drink
The range includes the Ron Millonario 15 Reserva Especial Spirit Drink, Ron Millonario 10 Aniversario Reserva, Ron Millonario XO and the Ron Millonario 10 Aniversario Cincuenta. Another real highlight: the Ron Millonario Kuytchi Spirit Drink. It is being launched by Sierra Madre GmbH as a tribute to Vinikunka - the mountain of seven colours. In honour of Kuytchi, the rainbow goddess of the Incas, this new spirit was created on the basis of Ron Millonario, enriched with natural flavours of cocoa and "dulce de leche": deliciously soft, lovely and velvety like the warmth of the Peruvian sun.
