Charlie the sloth, a resident of the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, tried his hand at brewing in 2019.

His keeper provided the sloth with a selection of flowers, fruits and vegetables such as zucchini, squash, roses, pears, yams, beets, etc. Charlie chose rose and pear.

The zoo has a partnership with Simmzy's Pub brewery, which then brewed a beer with the ingredients Charlie chose. The beer itself is saidto be a blend of ale and lager and is strongly reminiscent of a Kölsch.

In Charlie's honor, the beer is called "Slothen Bräu". Whether Charlie was allowed to taste a sip of "his" beer, however, was not disclosed.

By the way, Charlie the sloth is not the first "animal" brewer.

In 2018, a black bear named Ranger, also a resident of the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, had already acted as "assistant brewmaster". From a selection of ingredients, he had chosen hibiscus and (unsurprisingly) honey. In 2017, Gorilla Hasani had selected oatmeal, pilsner malt and oranges as ingredients.
