Sonnländer Holding GmbH, a subsidiary of the Hamburg-based EDEKA ZENTRALE Stiftung & Co. KG, will take over Wilhelmsthaler Mineralbrunnen, based in Calden, North Hesse, on 1 January 2024. Sonnländer reached an agreement on this with the previous owner of Wilhelmsthaler Mineralbrunnen, Hassia Mineralquellen GmbH & Co. KG in Bad Vilbel. The staff of the plant will be taken over completely. The well plant, which was built in 1978, will be comprehensively modernised in the coming months with new filling equipment, also with regard to the consumption of resources. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the exact purchase price. Sonnländer will thus operate two efficient mineral springs in the future and significantly increase its commitment in this important market segment.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to include Wilhelmstaler Mineralbrunnen in our network," says Markus Mosa, Chairman of the Board of EDEKA ZENTRALE Stiftung & Co. KG. "This will strengthen our independence and flexibility in order to permanently secure the supply of our merchants and consumers with products of high quality and at attractive prices."

Dirk Hinkel, Managing Partner Hassia Group: "Against the backdrop of the current general conditions, we are required to regularly review our range of services and also take a close look at the profitability of each location. In the course of this, we have come to the conclusion that there is greater development potential for the Wilhelmsthaler Mineralbrunnen under the umbrella of the EDEKA group," says Hinkel. "At the same time, we feel responsible for the business and our dedicated employees, to whom we owe a great debt of gratitude for their always exemplary commitment. We therefore looked for a strong partner who would successfully continue our well operation along our values and for the benefit of all our employees. We have now found the optimal partner in the EDEKA group."
