SternMaid commissions fourth sachet plant - Steadily growing demand for filling in sachets

Filling in small packages is becoming increasingly popular with end consumers. To meet the unrelenting demand, contract filler and co-packer SternMaid has now commissioned what is already its fourth filling line for sealed-rim sachets within just a few years. At the Wittenburg site, up to one million sachets per day can now be flexibly filled with powdered and granulated foods, instant beverages or dietary supplements.

It was only in August 2020 that SternMaid commissioned its third sachet line: a triplex line that fills three sachets simultaneously. Since March 2022, filling into sachets has already been running on four lines, two duplex and two triplex. The renewed expansion of filling capacity into portion pouches is in response to the steadily growing demand from consumers and thus also from SternMaid's customers. In addition, the growth rates for powdered dietary supplements such as vitamin mixtures or minerals, innovative nutricosmetics concepts and functional instant beverages are fueling this trend. Pre-portioned products also meet the demand for convenience, as they are ideal for on-the-go use and can be used quickly and easily at any time.

To ensure that exactly the same quantity of each mix is always put into the pouches, the lines are equipped with high-precision dosing systems and also calibrated checkweighers. This ensures that overfilled or underfilled sachets are reliably discharged, which is particularly important for functional products.

SternMaid attaches particular importance to safety and noise protection: the new line, just like the other three lines, runs particularly quietly. As part of the overall concept, the filling and packaging areas were structurally separated.

When it comes to assembly and commissioning, the team is now well practiced. "On what is now our fourth sachet line, we were able to start production in record time. Thanks to excellent planning, prefabrication of all components and small parts, and preinstallation of the media column, the first acceptance test could be carried out after just one week," reports project manager Jan Zabel.
