An unusual traffic accident kept police in the Neustadt/Aisch-Bad Windsheim district busy: On Thursday evening, June 19, 2025, a 49-year-old man was involved in an accident while driving a homemade vehicle—the main component of which was an empty beer crate. The bizarre joyride ended around 7:45 p.m. with serious injuries and a whole series of criminal charges.
Homemade Vehicle Made from Beverage Industry Materials
The 49-year-old had built the unusual vehicle himself. He attached wheels and a motor to an empty beer crate. He was driving this vehicle on a public road in the northern part of the district—faster than six kilometers per hour, as the police confirmed. This meant the vehicle was subject to registration.
Loss of Control Leads to Crash
While driving, the man lost control of his motorized beer crate, veered off the road to the right, and crashed. He sustained serious injuries, including a fracture. However, according to Police Chief Carsten Keller, his life was not in danger. The injured man had to be treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital. A breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol level of just under one per mille—according to other reports, even over one per mille.
Numerous Traffic Law Violations
The man faced consequences for driving under the influence as well as violations of the Compulsory Insurance Act, the Motor Vehicle Tax Act, the Vehicle Registration Ordinance, and the Traffic Regulations. The homemade vehicle was neither registered nor insured and should not have been driven on public roads.
