Young people in Generation Z (18 to 24 years) drink less alcohol in Germany than older age groups. This is shown by data from YouGov Global Profiles: Almost half of the German GenZ (49 percent) say they do not drink alcohol at all. This is more than the German average (46 percent). The age comparison shows that respondents aged 45 to 54 years are the least likely to abstain from alcohol (41 percent).

Also in comparison with other European countries, the German GenZ stands out with the lowest alcohol consumption: While among the nine countries surveyed, the Swiss and Portuguese are the least likely not to drink alcohol (30 percent each), in the United Kingdom it is 43 percent who abstain from alcohol. However, German 18- to 24-year-olds are the most likely not to drink alcohol (49 per cent).

These findings are based on April 2022 data from YouGov Global Profiles, which uses more than 1,000 uniformly collected questions in 43 countries around the world to analyse target groups in the most important markets for companies. The tool tracks the habits, behaviours and attitudes of consumers worldwide.
