Recycling of beverage cartons: Entrepreneur and investors plan billion-euro investment
News General news
Philipp Althöfer, managing director of Aerocycle GmbH and PWA recycling concept GmbH, wants to work with an international group of investors to build recycling capacity for one-third of all beverage cartons produced worldwide starting in 2028.
The planned investment volume is €1 billion. The contracts have not yet been signed, but negotiations are underway, according to EUWID.
The entrepreneur's earlier plans remain unaffected by this. According to Althöfer, the first step is to build
a plant at the company's headquarters in Dormagen with a capacity of 37,500 tons of input material. Construction is to begin quickly
so that the new capacity can go into operation in 2027.
Regarding compliance with the revised XXXVI. recommendation of the BfR, Althöfer explains that his process uses NIR-supported dry sorting, operates without water, and reduces the germ load through thermal and/or UVC treatment.
