But that's a juice shop!

Juice shop is a negative German term for a shop or a company.

The term originated in the 19th century, but did not have a negative meaning at the time, but was used for pharmacies.

Later, the word was also used to describe bars, pubs and dive bars.

Presumably this term for rather dodgy businesses had a corresponding influence on the change in meaning.

Today, the word "juice shop" is used to describe a poorly run shop, inferior goods or unfriendly staff.
