Perfect Water Quality in Refrigeration and Cooling Circuits – Grünbeck’s New varioliQ:UF Filter System Cleans via a Bypass Flow – Without Interrupting Operations

Even closed cooling circuits are not immune to water quality deterioration caused by microbiological factors, corrosion, or deposits. High-quality filter systems from Grünbeck can reliably prevent this. In particular, the newly developed varioliQ:UF series achieves this particularly efficiently and economically through two stages using gravel filters and ultrafiltration.

Whether in industrial facilities, hospitals, data centers, or other large buildings: If closed refrigeration and cooling circuits are integrated, consistently high water quality must be guaranteed. Otherwise, operational disruptions, production downtime, increased maintenance costs, and wear throughout the entire system are inevitable.

When the new Grünbeck varioliQ:UF filtration system is integrated, such problems are reliably prevented with minimal effort. Thanks to its integration into the partial flow, it ensures consistently flawless water quality without the need to drain the circuit or perform time-consuming flushing procedures.

The varioliQ:UF filters the circulating water in two stages, removing even the finest contaminants as well as bacteria, viruses, Legionella, and other pathogens. Specifically: In the first stage, the multi-layer filter removes undissolved components such as rust or dirt particles. The ultrafiltration module subsequently reduces turbidity and microorganisms.

The filter system’s intuitive touchscreen operation ensures high ease of use and minimizes operating and maintenance requirements. Key factors here include the fully automatic control system with integrated backwashing, which operates based on an adjustable differential pressure or at specific time intervals without external intervention. Backwashing of the two filter stages is performed using municipal water in the reverse flow direction, with the retained particles being discharged directly into the sewer. This eliminates the need for time-consuming replacement of the filter media.

Grünbeck highlights another interesting feature: the built-in bypass pump, which enables simple and hydraulically independent connection to the system. In the spirit of sustainability, the new Grünbeck filter system can also be switched to Eco mode—a particularly energy-efficient operating mode.

The varioliQ:UF has a nominal connection size of DN 25 and can be operated at a nominal flow rate of up to 3 m3/h. The water and ambient temperature may range between 5 and 40 °C.

Optionally, the system can also be equipped with an integrated dosing system and pH monitoring.

In addition to water recycling, the varioliQ:UF filtration system is also suitable for use with alternative water sources. For example, rainwater is treated through two filtration stages to remove contaminants such as bacteria, viruses, Legionella, and other pathogens. This results in hygienically safe water that can be used, for example, as process water, in cooling or HVAC systems, or for air humidification.
