Guaraná is Brazil’s most popular soft drink, made from the fruit of the same name. The guaraná fruit has been known to the indigenous peoples of the Amazon region for centuries. Originally, the peeled and dried seeds were ground into a light brown powder, mixed with water, and sweetened with honey. Today, guaraná accounts for over a quarter of all soft drinks sold in Brazil (the world’s third-largest soft drink market).
