The owner, Volksbank BRAWO, is withdrawing financial support for the loss-making traditional brewery after the search for an investor to modernize its aging production facilities proved unsuccessful. The decision stems from the persistently shrinking German beer market and sharply rising energy and production costs.
Around 90 to 100 employees will be affected by the closure. However, the long-established Wolters brand is not expected to disappear entirely; those in charge are currently in talks with interested parties about potentially brewing the popular beer at a different location in the future.
