The Landesehrenpreis is awarded every year by the Ministry of the Environment of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. The prerequisite is that companies have received at least one DLG medal in gold for their products in the past year. The award was developed in 2009 together with the German Agricultural Society (DLG).

Gaffel's Fassbrause, Gaffel Kölsch, Gaffel Wiess, Gaffel Lemon, Gaffel SonnenHopfen and the spirits Mamma Nero, Schwester Herz and Plüsch Prumm have already been awarded DLG Gold several times.

In addition to these criteria, which primarily concern quality and taste, the Landesehrenpreis also honours the provision of apprenticeship places, pay in line with collective agreements, positive assessments in food monitoring, commitment to sustainability or the use of an environmental management system. In addition, Gaffel works with an ISO-certified sustainability manager (TÜV).

Gaffel is so far the only Cologne brewery to have been awarded the Landesehrenpreis. Only 74 NRW companies from all important sectors of the food industry have received the award in 2021.

"As a family-run company in its fourth generation, we focus on high quality and the use of the best raw materials," says Thomas Deloy, Marketing and PR Director. "For us, sustainability is an essential part of the production process. We are pleased that the state government recognises our commitment."
