Declining Demand for Beverage Cartons: Refresco Plans to Close Plant in France
News General news
Refresco France, a beverage bottler for private-label and branded products, is considering closing its subsidiary J&C SAS and, with it, its French facility in La Roche-sur-Foron.
Subject to the consultation process with employee representatives, Refresco’s proposed plan could lead to the closure of the site in the Haute-Savoie department by April 2027.
The remaining production volumes from La Roche-sur-Foron are to be gradually distributed among the group’s other plants in France, primarily the Refresco sites in Nuits-Saint-Georges (Côte-d’Or department) and Le Quesnoy (Nord department).
Refresco France cites a significant and sustained decline in demand in the French market for fruit juices and nectars, as well as a shift in consumer preferences away from beverage cartons, as the reasons for the closure plans. The affected plant in the Haute-Savoie department specializes exclusively in bottling juices in this type of packaging.
