SLYRS Mountain Edition - Distilled in the valley, matured on the mountain

With the SLYRS Mountain Edition, the SLYRS distillery presents its annual whisky treat, which breathes the purest Bavarian mountain air at an altitude of 1501m on Mount Stümpfling, where it matures to perfection. On 1 May, the Bavarian Highland Whisky will be released in two different guises at 45% vol. and 50.4% vol. To coincide with the launch of the Mountain Edition, there will be a hearty morning pint with Weißwurst breakfast, Steckerlfisch and live music at Slyrs Caffee & Lunchery on 1 May.

Mountains on the doorstep, an idea in your head
"Highland whisky? We can do that too!" thought SLYRS Master Distiller Hans Kemenater and his team of distillers. In 2014, they put this plan into practice for the first time. With the help of the Spitzingsee Alpine railways and a ski lift, they transported around 50 specially selected whisky barrels to an altitude of 1501 metres, to the summit of the Stümpfling mountain. This is where the unique SLYRS high-altitude storage facility is located. The SLYRS Mountain Edition matures there for 5 years until its perfection.

"The SLYRS Höhenlager is an absolutely exceptional storage location. Surrounded by the purest Bavarian mountain air and with its very own microclimate," says Hans Kemenater. There are extreme temperature fluctuations between summer and winter, sometimes up to 60 degrees. They influence the maturing process and thus also the taste of the new Mountain Edition. The result is "a very powerful single malt whisky. It captures the harsh mountain climate and reflects it in a clear, intense flavour and special spiciness - a real Bavarian Highlander."

One whisky - two guises
The annual Mountain Edition comes in two different versions: one with 45 % vol. in a noble panorama carton. And as a special bottling "Jägerkamp", 50.4 % vol. strong. The special edition always refers to one of the mountains from the nearby surroundings. The Jägerkamp is the namesake of our SLYRS Mountain Edition 2023. The Bannwandquelle springs from the foot of the 1746-metre-high mountain. The pure Alpine spring water from this mountain spring forms the basis for the unique taste of SLYRS whiskies, including the Mountain Edition. For that authentic alpine feeling with elaborately crafted real stone labels and limited to 1746 bottles - 1 bottle for every metre of altitude. Strictly limited to 1746 bottles, it reflects the full power of the mountain with 50.4% vol.
