Sparkling wine bottles may be sold without capsules in future

This is made possible by the Delegated Regulation (EU 2023/1606) of the European Commission, which adapts two previous regulations from 2019 and 2018. According to this, producers and bottlers are to have the option of not using foil for operational reasons such as cost savings, waste reduction or improvement of marketing, provided there is no safety risk from unintentional opening or manipulation of the holding device for the product.
