At this year's International Craft Beer Award organized by Meininger Verlag, Störtebeker brewing specialties once again impressed the expert jury of brewers and beer sommeliers, taking home a total of 4 of the prestigious awards. With record participation in the competition once again, this is a brilliant result: "The competition gets tougher and more international every year. All the more reason for us to be delighted with the new awards," reports Roland Schmalenbach, master brewer and head of quality assurance. This time, the jury awarded a gold medal to the Nordik-Porter Eisbock beer and another gold medal to the velvety-roasty Schwarz-Bier, which was also named Schwarzbier of the Year in the competition.

In addition, there are awards for two very special creations: "For the online tasting on April 29 on the theme of "Limited Brewing Specialties," we aged our Scotch-Ale and Nordik-Porter in old Störtebeker whisky barrels. The result was two fine beers with very complex, intense aromas," says Schmalenbach. These brewing specialties not only convinced the brewers from Stralsund, but now also the experts at the Craft Beer Award. While the wood barrel-aged Nordik Porter with aromas of dried fruits, dark chocolate and dark berries received a gold medal, the barrel-aged Scotch Ale was even honored with platinum.

"Aging in whiskey barrels enhanced the peaty aromas and also brought sweet honey tones and a slight cherry note to the beer," Roland Schmalenbach tells us. "A real taste experience that has more than earned the award, even in my eyes," says the brewmaster. The beers will be officially presented in the online tasting "Adventure Journey" on April 29 at 8:15 pm. But not only the viewers of the livestream will have the opportunity to enjoy the wood barrel-aged beers. A strictly limited package of one bottle each of the wood barrel-aged specialties is now available exclusively in the online store - while stocks last.
