After the iconic wine glasses, Josephinenhütte is now devoting itself to a new beverage category that Kurt Josef Zalto believes deserves more attention. “Fine brandies are more than spirits - they are the essence of hand-picked, fully ripe fruit and present their aromas in their purest, most concentrated form,” says the Josephinenhütte glass designer.

The special features of the glass
The thin-walled, curved design of the glass is inspired by an opening flower bud. The characteristic shape reduces the burn of the alcohol and enhances the intensity of the aroma. At the same time, it ensures a silky mouthfeel. This is also confirmed by Oliver Ebert, the owner of the Berlin bar “Beckett's Kopf”, who has been awarded “Mixologist of the Year” several times: “Josephine No 10 is an experience for the nose, eyes and lips. Anyone who thinks they already know all the nuances of a distillate should use this glass. It is a delicate microscope for undiscovered aromas.”

The Shape of Taste - the unusual design of the Josephine No 10
The long, elegant stem ensures that the hand remains as far away from the nose as possible when drinking. This allows the aromas of the distillate to be perceived unadulterated by foreign influences such as the scent of hand cream or soap.
The characteristic kink, together with the large goblet surface, accelerates the rise of delicate, volatile aromas. In the slightly waisted, shortened fragrance chimney, on the other hand, the aromas are bundled and directed specifically towards the nose to increase the intensity of the aroma.

The slightly outwardly curved edge of the glass allows fine brandies to flow more slowly into the mouth, giving them more time to develop their flavor. The precisely calculated opening of the aroma chimney allows the nose to perceive aromas even while drinking, which further enhances the flavorful expression of the distillate.

Intensive development process
The development of the glass involved countless tastings with outstanding distillers, sommeliers and spirits experts. In the beginning, two completely different prototypes faced each other, which on the one hand demonstrated the influence of the goblet surface and aroma chimney on aroma perception. On the other hand, the optimal distance between the nose and the liquid before and during drinking was worked out. “My aim with the Josephine No 10 was to create a glass that allows the delicate, almost fragile aromas of these hand-distilled spirits to be experienced authentically and purely,” says Kurt Josef Zalto.
Billy Wagner, owner and sommelier of Nobelhart & Schmutzig in Berlin, was one of the first spirits experts to be impressed by the new glass. His conclusion: “The Josephine No 10 is a game changer for the enjoyment of high-quality spirits.”
With the Josephine No 10, Kurt Josef Zalto has once again succeeded in creating a glass that reflects the values of Josephinenhütte under the motto “The Shape of Taste” - the highest level of craftsmanship, sensory precision through functional design and a passion for incomparable moments of pleasure.
