Hygiena, a global leader in rapid food safety and animal health testing, is pleased to announce AOAC approval of its ZymoSnap test for alkaline phosphatase (ALP) measurement in milk and milk-based products. They offer a simple and effective way to provide clear results on milk quality and pasteurization within minutes, and have also been validated for various types of milk, creams and more.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), between 1993 and 2012, there were 127 outbreaks linked to raw milk or raw milk products such as ice cream, soft cheese or yogurt. They resulted in 1,909 illnesses and 144 hospitalizations.[i] Therefore, it is imperative for dairy producers to accurately identify inadequate pasteurization as part of their food safety plan.

"ZymoSnap ALP has received AOAC certification and is now awaiting NCIMS approval, which is expected in early 2023. We are proud to have our products recognized by such globally renowned agencies. Independent evaluations give us the confidence we need to continue to safeguard our customers' businesses and protect end consumers by providing trusted, reliable test products to the food and beverage industry," said Steve Nason, CEO of Hygiena.

"Advances in recent decades have enabled the development of more robust methods for detecting ALP in pasteurized dairy products. Our rapid, bioluminogenic, three-step method is the simplest and most cost-effective way to verify the pasteurization efficiency of dairy products to ensure quality and safety. Our goal is to continually modernize and refine our food and beverage instrumentation to achieve more holistic HACCP monitoring and increase public health safety," concluded Steve Nason.

The EnSURE® Touch Luminometer supports ZymoSnap ALP as well as other hygiene and allergen monitoring tests, all of which can be used in dairy production, providing a cost-effective system for any dairy. In addition, the instrument is self-calibrating and requires little to no maintenance or servicing, further reducing costs. In addition, data can be stored in Hygiena's SureTrend® Cloud (SaaS) data analysis software to track test results, identify and analyze trends, automatically generate reports and maintain records for audit compliance.
