It is not only the former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, John Campbell, who is responsible for the distinctive style of the Lochlea Single Malts. As one of only a few whisky distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea uses only barley from its own cultivation and distils and matures its whisky on site. All this shapes the unmistakable character of the brand.

With the Lochlea Harvest Edition (Second Crop), the "Seasonal Releases" grow by a new bottling in 2023. The series comprises limited seasonal bottlings: "Sowing" in spring, "Harvest" in summer, "Fallow" in autumn and "Ploughing" in winter. Each of them shows Lochlea Single Malt in a different light. And each lets you explore in taste what happens on the farm as the seasons change. The Harvest Edition is inspired by the busy harvest season, when summer sunsets bring in the barley for the following year's whisky.

Blended from port casks, first-fill bourbon casks and STR barriques, this year's Harvest Edition offers delicious variety. The much higher proportion of port casks enhances the creaminess of the whisky. At the same time, the STR barriques bring in a delightful peppery spiciness. STR stands for "scraped" or "shaved", "toasted" and "recharred" and refers to barrels in which the inner layer of wood has been thinly removed before being toasted and finally re-burnt on the surface.
