MOSCA once again receives Focus Sustainability award

MOSCA has once again been honoured as one of the nation's most sustainable companies with the 'Germany's Best – Sustainability' award presented by Focus Money magazine. This year, the end-of-line specialists were named among the top five companies in the mechanical and plant engineering category. The award recognises far-reaching sustainability efforts by German companies.

"There are many ways to address sustainability in the field of mechanical engineering. Our goal is to take advantage of all the options for eco-friendly and resource-saving production operations," explains MOSCA CEO Simone Mosca. "But sustainability also means long-term thinking and commitment across all company divisions." MOSCA topped the list of mechanical engineering companies for the second year in a row in the competition for Focus Money's 'Germany's Best – Sustainability' award. Simone Mosca: "We are very pleased to be recognised by Focus Money again this year. This shows that our sustainability efforts are being noticed. It also motivates us to make our processes and production operations even more resource-efficient and to explore new approaches with our customers and partners."

The sustainability seal is awarded as part of the study 'Germany's Best – Sustainability' conducted by the IMWF (Institute for Management and Economic Research) on behalf of Focus Money and Deutschland Test. This study places equal emphasis on ecological, economic and social sustainability aspects. Some 19,000 companies and brands were compared between March 2021 and February 2022. MOSCA's ranking reflects the company's commitment to environmental protection, social responsibility and resource conservation.

Sustainable material cycles
With its end-of-line solutions, MOSCA has been striving to maximise resource savings for years. This starts with strapping as a form of minimal packaging. Simone Mosca explains: "Strapping as a packaging solution makes it possible to secure even large and heavy bundles with narrow plastic straps." MOSCA makes this approach even more sustainable with recycling and a closed loop system. "Not all plastics are the same: MOSCA's PET strapping is made from 100% recycled materials and PP strapping is made from up to 30% recyclate." After it is used, PET strapping can be separated according to material type, recycled and returned to the loop. But not only the raw materials are 'green'. The manufacturing process for plastic strapping is also eco-friendly. The company's on-site, 2,500m2 solar power system generates renewable energy for production operations at the Muckental plant.

Resource-saving technology
MOSCA uses its energy-saving SoniXs ultrasonic technology to minimise resource consumption by the strapping machines during operation. Strap ends are welded together with zero emissions and without heat. The technology produces no vapours or odours, which makes MOSCA machines suitable for use in all sectors, including the food industry.

Simone Mosca: "Our efforts to improve sustainability continue long after a machine is delivered. We want to help our customers save resources. That's why we ensure a long lifecycle for our strapping machines. We also use high-quality materials in production, offer customers special training programmes and develop customised maintenance concepts."

Supporting community projects in the region
Social, sustainable commitment is another high priority at MOSCA. For instance, the company participated in the Packaging Valley Makeathon 2021 and invited students, graduates and professionals to join them in Waldbrunn. The goal was to develop innovative digital ideas to map the carbon footprint of packaging processes in a networked production operation. Since 2015, MOSCA has also been involved on a regional level with an annual project competition. The focus in 2020 and 2022 was on sustainability. Together with three other companies, MOSCA is offering a total of €25,000 for environmental protection projects this year. Simone Mosca emphasises: "We will be supporting more than 40 non-profit projects from the Waldbrunn region. This is our way of showing that even seemingly small projects can make a big contribution to environmental protection and to our future."
