World Premiere: Riedenburger and Kehrwieder Brew Non-Alcoholic Wet Hop Pale Ale
News General news
Since 2014, the Riedenburger Brauhaus and Hamburg’s Kehrwieder Kreativbrauerei have been brewing their joint Wet Hop Pale Ale, “Frischer Traum,” every year during the hop harvest. Now in its 13th edition, there’s something new: for the first time, the two breweries have brewed a non-alcoholic version alongside the original 5.7% ABV beer. With “Freier Traum,” they’ve achieved a world premiere: the first non-alcoholic Wet Hop Pale Ale.
Both beers are brewed using freshly harvested organic Callista hops from the Markus Eckert organic farm. Unlike conventional beers, the hop cones are processed immediately after harvest, without prior drying. This ensures that the delicate hop aromas are particularly well preserved. The Callista variety is characterized by distinct fruity notes reminiscent of passion fruit and orange.
“Our ‘Frischer Traum’ has always thrived on the special aroma of freshly harvested hops. We wanted to make this taste experience possible in a non-alcoholic version as well,” explains Maximilian Krieger, managing director of the Riedenburger Brauhaus.
With “Freier Traum,” Riedenburger and Kehrwieder are responding to the growing demand for non-alcoholic specialty beers. This is not merely about offering an alternative to the alcoholic original, but about expanding the lineup with a distinct, hop-forward beer of its own.
Both beers are brewed only once a year and are available in limited quantities—at local beverage stores and at organic retailers nationwide.
