Tropical fruit meets Nordic tartness in the new New England IPA

More fruit is not possible: the new Störtebeker New England IPA is bursting with tropical aromas of passion fruit, mango and pineapple. The brewers from Stralsund turned to the hop experts at Yakima Chief to develop the recipe.

NEIPA, Hazy IPA or Milkshake Beer: New England IPA has many names. What they all have in common is the incredible fruitiness of the beers and the strong cloudiness, which is reminiscent of naturally cloudy juices. This was also the case with the limited edition winning beer of last year's German Hobby Brewers' Championship. The brewing specialty quickly became very popular and the demand for a permanently available Störtebeker New England IPA grew louder. The brewers from Stralsund did not take long to respond: The velvety, fruity brewing specialty is now available throughout Germany.
Störtebeker broke new ground in developing the recipe. In order to find the perfect blend of hops for a fruity-tropical aroma profile, six well-known suppliers from Germany and the USA were asked to bring intense fruity notes to the beer using an identical malt blend. Störtebeker fans were allowed to rate these beers and thus participate in the recipe development. The blend of Yakima Chief Hops from the United States with the varieties Citra, Krush, Simcoe and Idaho 7 was the most convincing. “The combination of these special hop varieties provides rich aromas of passion fruit, pineapple and mango - a tropical fruit basket that fits perfectly into the warmer season,” says Helge Guttchen from Quality Assurance at Störtebeker Braumanufaktur.
