A wheat bock that tastes like a fruity wheat beer and scores highly for its incredible drinkability: that's Weihenstephaner Vitus. At the World Beer Awards, it not only won the gold medal, but also the title of best strong wheat beer from Germany.

August is not only a hot month in terms of temperatures. For the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, the month also always means a certain amount of excitement – after all, it's time for the World Beer Awards. And lo and behold: in 2025, there was once again reason to celebrate. The world's oldest brewery took home three medals from the United Kingdom.

Two other wheat beer specialties from Weihenstephan each received silver: both the Kristall and the Hefeweißbier were awarded precious metal. But then came the “Country Winner”: the Weizenbock Vitus continues its winning streak. For over a decade, the big brother of Hefeweißbier has won at least one medal every year. The experts appreciated its intense banana aroma, freshness, and full-bodied flavor—a textbook example of a wheat bock.

Technical Director Tobias Zollo: “When the smell of bananas wafts through the corridors of our cellar, everyone knows that our Vitus is ripening. This is always an exciting detail during guided tours,” he explains. “The competitions give our guests independent confirmation of what the tasting brings home to them: Vitus is simply a special beer.”

This is confirmed by Prof. Dr. Josef Schrädler, director of the brewery: "There is no question that the basis of such a beer is not only great raw materials, but also outstanding brewers. For us, the awards at the World Beer Awards are confirmation of our work and a reason to be proud!"

A total of over 3,000 beers from all over the world were submitted for evaluation. A panel of independent beer experts was responsible for the blind tasting and subsequent scoring.
