New distribution channels, new packaging solution, new filling lines: From May 2024, VILSA will be the only national brand to offer still organic mineral water suitable for infant formula in practical Tetra Pak beverage cartons. Managing Partner Henning Rodekohr: "With this major step, we are growing on many levels: We are offering our customers the perfect solution for top-quality organic mineral water to go. We are expanding our national sales structure with a strong team and we are thus strengthening our position as the largest organic mineral water supplier nationally. The addition of the sustainable Tetra Pak packaging is part of our growth strategy."

As a first step, 0.5 litre and 1.0 litre VILSA Naturelle organic mineral water will be bottled on two new filling lines in deposit-free and recyclable packaging; new production employees and a sales team have been hired for this purpose.

New national distribution channels
Hans-Dietrich Kühl, Chairman of the Management Board: "VILSA is expanding its national distribution in the drugstore and convenience sector as well as at airports and on the railway. We expect sustainable, national growth for the VILSA brand. The lightweight and deposit-free packaging is the perfect to-go product and a constant companion at many trade fairs and events. Parents who value healthy and sustainable nutrition will find the organic mineral water suitable for infant formula to be the best choice."

The VILSA claim: always the best packaging solution
On average, Tetra Pak beverage cartons consist of at least 70% cardboard - a renewable, plant-based raw material. The wood fibres come from certified forests and other responsible sources. Only as much cardboard is used as is necessary for the stability of the packaging. This avoids unnecessary weight.

Hans-Dietrich Kühl comments: "It goes without saying that we fulfil our aim of always offering our customers the best and most climate-friendly packaging solutions: We have therefore opted for a packaging solution from Tetra Pak in which the plastic content is made from certified sustainable sugar cane. This means that our packaging consists of an even higher proportion of renewable raw materials than conventional beverage cartons."

The CO2 footprint is kept as low as possible thanks to the high proportion of renewable raw materials. By switching to plant-based plastic, the CO2 footprint of the 1000ml packaging has been reduced by a further 19% compared to a drinks carton made of conventional PE (29g CO2e/package). Around 85% of the packaging is purely plant-based. Thanks to the further development of the recycling infrastructure in Germany, the packaging is highly recyclable, as not only the fibres of the carton material but also the plastics and aluminium components of the carton can now be recovered and recycled. In the medium to long term, the aim is to achieve completely plant-based packaging.
