NordseeMilch eG has expanded its product range to include Elopak's environmentally friendly Pure-Pak® Mini cartons. Thanks to a newly installed filling machine, fresh cream and cocoa milk are now being filled into the handy gable-top cartons at the dairy in Witzwort. While “NordseeMilch Schlemmersahne” and “Watt'n Kakao” are sold in half-liter Pure-Pak® Mini cartons with resealable Pure-TwistFlipTM closures, the dairy cooperative has opted for the 200ml version with Easy Opening (without screw cap). By dispensing with the screw cap, the plastic content is reduced by 80 percent compared to a conventional plastic cup.

With the aim of making its packaging concepts as sustainable as possible, NordseeMilch eG is focusing on a new container shape: from September 2025, the 500g gourmet cream, 200g whipped cream and 500ml cocoa milk will be sold in Elopak's handy Pure-Pak® Mini.

With its smaller base size of 57x57 mm, the Pure-Pak® Mini is noticeably slimmer than the standard Pure-Pak® with a base size of 70x70 mm. It also features the iconic gable-top carton silhouette, is fully recyclable, and offers optimal product protection.

No twist-off cap for minimal use of plastic
The 200g whipped cream is not only a new product in the NordseeMilch range, but also the first cream ever to be sold in Germany in this size in Pure-Pak® Mini packaging. At the same time, NordseeMilch is focusing on a twist-off cap-free version of its whipped cream with Easy Opening, which reduces the amount of plastic in the packaging to a minimum. To make it easier for consumers to get started with the Easy Opening solution, NordseeMilch prints a QR code on the carton gable in addition to an explanatory sketch. The code leads to an explanatory video on the website and connects the packaging with the digital brand world.

“For us, it's not just quality, reliability, and innovation that are at the core of our brand identity, but also a commitment to animal welfare and environmental protection,” says Christoph Bossmann, Managing Director of NordseeMilch. “In addition to particularly gentle manufacturing and processing methods, we feel committed to the region and are actively working to reduce plastic waste through our conscious choice of packaging.”

Advantages in logistics
Compared to round cartons, the square shape means that around 18 percent more Pure-Pak® cartons fit on a pallet. For retailers, this means optimized shelf space utilization and brand presentation: the gable shape allows for a seamless front presentation, improves visibility in the refrigerated section, and facilitates handling in the store. In addition, the mini carton is stable, stackable, and less prone to leakage—which also has a positive effect on processes along the supply chain and consumer acceptance.

Stephen Naumann, Vice President of Elopak, comments: “We have enjoyed a close and trusting partnership with NordseeMilch for over 20 years. I am delighted that we can now continue this success story with the installation of the new machine and the launch of the three products in Pure-Pak® Mini.”

Good example sets a precedent – further launches planned
During the third quarter of 2025, a German retail chain also plans to switch its cream from plastic and three-component cups to Pure-Pak® Mini and is relying on the expertise and experience of NordseeMilch in collaboration with Elopak for the filling of its own brand.
